Typical sessions and prices
Taster session:
Getting on the water for the first time (more information about a first session can be found here), learning some basics, playing games, These sessions are available on a walk up basis when the weather is good from South Beach (map).
The sessions last approximately 1 hour with at least 40 minutes being spent on the water. These taster sessions are offered for only £10 per person with a minimum of two people and a maximum of 4 (on occasion it may be possible to take one person out for this rate so do ask).(more on pricing)
Beginners session:
An introduction to kayaking, these sessions are similar to the taster session but with more time to work on strokes balance etc. These sessions are arranged in advance and take place either from South Beach (map) or the arranged location. (Pricing)
Improver’s session:
Location dependant on weather. Perhaps a paddle around the bay, possibly some small Wave surfing in the kayaks, games, new skills, training for British Canoe Union (BCU) star tests, the session can be modified to suit your interests. (pricing)
BCU Star test training:
(Up to three star) Covering the skills needed to pass the Star Tests. BCU Star Test Assessment (1-3 star) - assessment of the paddler’s skills against the BCU syllabus. Personal debriefing and how to move forward in the sport. (pricing)
River trip (dependant on water levels)
Allow a minimum of 2.5 hours. A typical trip would be the lower Ystwyth. Paddlers must have some experience in a kayak. The group will see the beautiful Welsh countryside from the river. They will learn the skills to maintain control on grade two water (Introductory white water). To arrange this type of session please contact us
Advanced Session
Depending on weather conditions, the session will consist of individual coaching, introducing new skills, learning to roll (righting the boat after a capsize using the paddle). Depending on the equipment being used - possibly an introduction to playboating. (Pricing)
Coastal Trip
A paddle around beautiful Cardigan Bay, with the possibility of seeing dolphins or seals.
What to bring
You will need:
- Old shoes or shoes which you can get wet.
- Synthetic fibre tee-shirt/jumper/fleece (fleece is very good). Do not wear anything made of cotton (cotton unsuitable for water sports).
- Sun Cream- a must during the summer months as reflection from the water will increase exposure, also ensure its water resistant.
- A towel.
- Clothes to change into after the session (you would be surprised how many don't.)
If you have one bring:
- A wetsuit, some wetsuits are available but no promises are made, If this is of great concern to you contact us to discuss it.
- Any personal kayaking kit you wish to use. Concessions can be given if you use your own equipment.
Session Times
Sessions can be arranged between 9am and dusk, weekends, school holidays & most evenings. During high season taster sessions may be offered from South Beach (Map) in aberystwyth at a low rate of £10 per person.
Equipment
All the equipment required is provided this includes:
Paddles, buoyancy aids, helmets, windproof tops and boats;
Boats available include play boats, creek boats and even two man boats.
The Equipment is arranged in advance. If you have particular requirements (such as being a size or shape not typical of a kayaker) please use the contact form to discuss your requirements.

Session prices are based on the number of people, the equipment used and the time spent coaching. Filling a session with 3-8 people will result in a cheaper session.
Larger groups receive precedence; the lower rates for smaller groups are to make the sport more accessible. Classes last approximately 90-120 min (group of 2-8) with at least 60 min on the water / tuition.
prices include the hire of equipment. All sessions listed give the time on the water, preparation and changing times are in addition to this. on average a 1 hour session with 4 people will take approximately 1 hour 45 minutes.
48 hours notice may be required for groups of over 8. To arrange this larger session please fill in the contact form
If you do not wish to arrange a group but to join a group which has already arranged a session contact us to discuss it.

*Groups of 5 and over, when conditions are far from ideal or the group are complete novices, extra assistance may be required (for your safety) and a small additional charge may apply. This will be discussed before hand. (Back to Price List)
**In a bid to make the sport more accessible concessions have been made to make the one person sessions more affordable however priority must be given to larger groups when booking. (Back to Price List)
Additional Hours
Aditional hours are charges as a 'one hour' rate but with 30% off the second hour's tuition.
Prices are subject to change and are not secured until a deposit has been taken.
Venues
The typical meeting place for a session will be Aberystwyth harbour or Aberystwyth's South Beach. We can of course come to you. If you would like to arrange a session near you please contacts us (although sessions on less sheltered water will be more likely to be called off in bad weather).

South Beach (most still calm days)
From Morrison's roundabout:
- From the roundabout head up the hill, signposted A4120 (Heol Y Bont)
- Take second exit onto A487 (Penparcau Rd)
- Continue on road over bridge and take first left turn after bridge (not into pub car park)
- Drive straight down road to find the sea and promenade, We are usually parked besides the Ice-cream hut in front of the end of south road. (map)

From the Pier:
- Looking directly at the pier turn left and walk along the promenade (with the sea on your right).
- Continue walking around the prom past the Castle until you see an Ice cream hut and a road on your left.
- The Van is usually parked near the ice cream hut. (map)

Our usual meeting location for days when the weather is less than perfect is outside the University's boat house, this can be seen here and directions can be found below.
Morrison's roundabout:
- From the roundabout head up the hill, signposted A4120 (Heol Y Bont).
- Take second exit onto A487 (Penparcau Rd).
- Turn Left onto Pen yr Angor after 0.9miles Immediately before the fire station.
- Take next right around a sharp corner onto lane boathouse is the building immediately on your right.
- If you go over a bridge you have missed the turning.
The Pier:
- Head up pier street (pier behind you and heading away).
- Follow the mandatory left down great Darkgate street.
- Take the next right (road forks) onto Chalybeate street.
- Take third exit towards Shell garage.
- At end of the road, turn left onto bridge street.
- Take the right immediately after the fire station (onto Pen-yr-Angor).
- Take next right around a sharp corner onto lane boathouse is the building immediately on your right.
- If you go over a bridge you have missed the turning.

Dolphins In Aberystwyth
On the 31st of July Dolphins were spotted off the coast of Aberystwyth, Unfortunately my camera was not to hand but we paddled towards them (myself and two paddlers) and were treated to the spectacle of a mother and calf dolphin about ten feet away from us!
