All kayaking journeys start with the first strokes on the water.

For me they were at the age of 8 given by my father.

Personally I love the challenges of the sport, last month I was on Europe's biggest standing river wave ( Lyon , France ) the wave was 8-10 foot and bouncing at the bottom of it took all of my nerve. Initially I doubted that I want to do it, Ignoring this I took the plunge. The run goes to plan or it doesn't.

At the end of the run it's all I can do to let out an exhilarated yell. I did it.

I know that some people don't want this kind of excitement. They prefer a relaxing paddle down a lazy river or along a coast, taking in views, with no other sounds reaching you but the sound of the water as it passes under your boat.

Extreme or tranquil it all starts with those first strokes.
